Frequently asked questions
The most common questions we hear from contractors on assignment.
How does overtime work?
As a casual employee, overtime is paid at the rates set by the applicable Modern Award, if your role is covered by one. If your role is not covered by a Modern Award, any additional hours worked will be paid at your current hourly rate.
In all cases, any overtime or additional hours must be agreed with your manager in advance. Please check with your manager before working extra hours to ensure they are approved and paid correctly.
What if I need to take leave or won't be working a period?
As a casual, you can either submit your timesheet as zero hours for that period, or contact admin@sharpandcarter.com.au and we'll take care of it on your behalf.
Do I accrue Annual Leave or Personal Leave?
As a temporary contractor, you are engaged on a casual basis and receive an additional 25% casual loading as part of your hourly rate. As a result, you do not accrue paid leave entitlements such as annual leave or personal/carer's leave.
What if I forget my password?
Use the "Forgot Password" link on the login page and you'll receive an email with reset instructions. If that email doesn't come through, please email admin@sharpandcarter.com.au and the team can reset it for you.
What should I do if I'm sick or can't attend work?
Let your onsite manager/supervisor know as early as possible, ideally before your shift is due to start, using whatever method they've asked you to use (a phone call is usually best).
Please also let your Sharp & Carter consultant know, so we can support you and keep the client informed if needed.
What happens as my assignment comes to an end?
As your end date approaches, your Sharp & Carter consultant will reach out to talk through what's next: this might mean an extension with your current client, a new opportunity, or the assignment wrapping up as planned.
There's nothing you need to do unless your consultant asks. Just keep your availability up to date with your consultant so we can match you quickly to what's next.
Sharp & Carter office shutdown (Christmas/NY)
Our offices close for the end-of-year break from Thursday 24 December 2026 to Sunday 3 January 2027 (inclusive).
Check with your manager/client whether your workplace is also closed over this period, or whether you're expected to work any of these dates.
Enter timesheets as normal for any days you do work.
Payroll continues to run as scheduled over this period, see the pay date banner at the top of this page.
Our office is closed, but admin@sharpandcarter.com.au will be monitored throughout the shutdown for anything urgent.
Are there any benefits or perks available to me as a contractor?
Yes. As a Sharp & Carter contractor you have free access to our Employee Assistance Program through Acacia Connection: confidential counselling and wellbeing support for you (and often your immediate family), available whenever you need it.
Before accessing Acacia, please confirm with Internal HR (internalHR@sharpandcarter.com.au), who will refer you through.
