About the role
Reporting to the CEO and as a member of the executive management team, the CFO is responsible for the corporate, financial, compliance and management of capital projects of Museums Victoria, which includes the development of a financial and operational strategy, metrics tied to that strategy, and the ongoing development and monitoring of control systems designed to preserve MV’s assets and report accurate financial results.
  
The CFO is also responsible for leader the delivery of MV’s large capital projects, including working with external government agencies to ensure appropriate governance.
  
Duties
  • Developing, executing and maintaining an overall performance strategy for the Finance, IT, and Capital Projects functions
  • Provision of timely and accurate statutory reporting and external compliance requirements
  • Provision of timely and accurate management information and analysis to the executive management team and the Board in relation to budgets, financial performance, economic evaluation and general financial analysis
  • Responsibility for the integrity of financial procedures, processes and methodology used throughout the organisation
  • Managing and maintaining the balance sheet, cash flow and capital investment function of the organisation to ensure ongoing financial sustainability and performance
  • Ensuring the implementation of the financial plan, and reporting to the Board in a timely manner on any deviations from the plan
  • Overseeing and attending to the day to day financial and accounting affairs of MV
  • Ensuring appropriate financial, accounting and auditing policies and procedures are developed, maintained, approved and disclosed
  • Maintaining constructive relationships with key external bodies and regulators including Victorian Auditor General’s Office, Creative Victoria and other key government stakeholders
  • Developing and leading a high performing team, while maximising employee engagement and enablement across the function
Skills and Experience
  
You are CA/CPA qualified, and have compiled an impressive track record and reputation as a high achieving finance leader. You have highly developed technical accounting skills and commercial acumen, along with proven experience managing complex and high level stakeholder relationships. You are a big picture thinker who is able to reason at a conceptual level and drive change, while still maintaining a strong attention to detail. Specifically, you have demonstrated a strong capability to drive organisational performance and efficiency, and to develop strategies to manage financial, operational, legal, and reputational risk.
  
Crucially, you are a natural leader with a strong depth of experience in managing large teams, and have the confidence and credibility to engage effectively and build relationships at Board level, and with senior executives and operational stakeholders.
  
As a senior leader, you must provide strong and clear leadership internally to MV and its workforce, and externally to key stakeholders. The CFO must, at all times act with integrity and conduct themself in a manner consistent with the MV Code of Conduct and the company’s values. The successful candidate must have a very high level of professionalism and a ‘can do’ attitude, and be comfortable with autonomy, ambiguity and adaptability. The role may involve other tasks as required and requires flexibility, diplomacy, pragmatism and resilience.
