Sharp & Carter has been engaged to recruit a Distribution Centre Manager for a large, well-established national food and distribution business.
Our client operates one of Australia’s largest and busiest distribution networks, servicing customers across multiple states through a highly automated and fast-moving operation. About the Role
Based at the Chullora DC in Sydney, this position is a key leadership role responsible for the end-to-end performance of a 26,000 sqm site employing more than 300 staff and operating 7 days per week.
Leading a large team across warehousing, transport and administration, you’ll ensure the site delivers safely, efficiently and in full alignment with operational, financial and compliance objectives.
This is a hands-on, high-visibility role suited to an experienced distribution leader who thrives in a complex, fast-paced and unionised environment. You’ll play a critical role in driving performance, culture and transformation across the site.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, coach and develop a team of DC, Transport and Shift Managers to deliver operational excellence and a strong safety culture.
- Take full accountability for DC operations, stock integrity, service levels and audit outcomes (SQF, HACCP, OH&S).
- Champion continuous-improvement initiatives and best-practice frameworks to drive efficiency, cost control and profitability.
- Manage operational and labour expenditure, contribute to budgeting, and ensure P&L targets are achieved.
- Oversee key transformation projects including the implementation of Manhattan WMS and Voice Picking technology.
- Maintain strong employee relations within a unionised workforce, ensuring fairness, collaboration and open communication.
- Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork and professional growth across all shifts.
Skills & Experience
- Proven success leading large-scale DC or logistics operations (250+ employees).
- Deep understanding of warehousing, transport and inventory management within food, FMCG or cold-chain environments.
- Demonstrated capability managing employee relations in a unionised setting.
- Experience implementing CI initiatives and systems such as WMS or Lean / Six Sigma.
- Commercial and financial acumen, with P&L accountability.
- Calm, structured and solutions-focused leadership style able to perform under pressure.
- High computer literacy and WMS expertise (Manhattan highly regarded).
