My client is an instantly recognisable retailer, with over 500 stores collectively, across Australia and New Zealand. They employ more than 44,000 staff and have their head office based in Melbourne's eastern suburbs. 

We are looking for a diligent financial accountant to be responsible for supporting decision-making and overseeing of financial information. 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to: 
Creation and review of periodic financial statements & reports 
  • Assist with the preparation of monthly, half yearly and yearly financial results, in accordance with internal timetable 
  • Reporting to Wesfarmers in accordance with timetable 
Financial compliance & reconciliation 
  • Financial reconciliations prepared in timely manner. 
  • Ensure all accounting policies, procedures and relevant legislative requirements are adhered to.
  • Ensure all reports and data are prepared and delivered as agreed with external audit 
  • Preparation of survey / statistics information 
Key provisions and areas of financial focus
  • Ensure key provisions are prepared, reviewed, and monitored. 
  • Assist with analysis of monthly results 
  • Preparation of month-end journals and reports 
  • Ensure an understanding of key balance sheet movements 
  • Identify risks & opportunities for the business in timely manner to enable mitigation &/or action

Candidate profile: 

  • Postgraduate qualification – CA / CPA (or near completion)
  • Experience working in a similar role at a large-scale corporate business
  • You’ll demonstrate a good understanding of accounting principles and have experience in the use of financial systems (preferably SAP), including accounting and general ledger experience, and completing ledger reconciliation. 

Additionally, you will possess:
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to drive improvements and meet tight deadlines
  • A great customer service focus and ability to work in a team 
  • Self-motivated and proactive 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 
  • Analytically minded and a good problem solver 
  • Advanced MS Excel
