About the role

Reporting to the Director of Financial Services and leading a large finance team, you will be responsible for financial accounting, policy and governance within Alfred Health whilst also playing a key role in driving transformational change of the organisation and finance function. The Financial Controller will work closely with the Financial Service leadership team to provide monthly and annual financial reporting across Alfred Health and externally. The role will also hold accountability for the Treasury Functions, Accounts Payable and the financial oversight of the cash collection processes. Pending an upcoming review, the Billing / Accounts Receivable teams may also report into this role at a later date.  
  
You will also be responsible for driving process improvement and operational performance by challenging the status quo and identifying and executing on opportunities for greater efficiency and quality of financial information.
  
 
Duties

- Management of the Financial Accounting function, including:
  • Coordination of the monthly and annual financial reporting program including reporting to Dept of Health.
  • Management of the financial compliance program including monitoring compliance with Standing Directions and other compliance reporting.
  • Finance Committee and Audit Committee reporting.
  • Management of the Great Plains general ledger system ensuring the chart of accounts is consistent with Dept of Health reporting guidelines.
  • Management of the external audit program and key contact for financial internal audits.
  • Maintenance of the fixed asset ledger.
  • Treasury management including banking, cash flow reporting, balance sheet and cash flow budgeting and forecasting.
  • Research Trusts accounting, reporting and forecasting.
  • Finance lead for the Monash-Alfred research contracts.
  • To provide financial services support to The Alfred Foundation as required.
  • To assist with capital reporting as required.
  
- Ensuring optimal Finance Policies, Procedures & Controls are in place and regularly reviewed.
  
- Proving expert financial and accounting advice to the Director of Financial Services as required.
  
- Assistance with Financial systems governance as required.
  
- Management of Accounts Payable team. 

  
Skills and Experience

You are a CA/CPA qualified finance professional with a strong track record at a senior leadership level of driving financial performance and ensuring strong controls and efficient processes in a large complex corporate environment.  You have a demonstrable expertise in building and leading high performing teams, getting the best out of your staff through motivating them and providing ongoing development.  You are a commercial and strategic thinker, who is proactive in monitoring trends and identifying opportunities, developing and executing plans to maximise financial performance and ensure ongoing improvement of processes and enhancing operational efficiency.  You are capable and ambitious, with the goal of progressing your career and the self-awareness of your key development areas to address to achieve it.
