We are partnering with a well-known global retail organisation to appoint a Inventory Accountant on short-term contract. This is a high-impact role sitting at the intersection of commercial finance, inventory accounting, and operational improvement, offering strong exposure to senior stakeholders during a period of transformation.
  
The Opportunity
You will act as a key link between finance, supply chain, and operations, driving both financial performance and inventory accuracy across the business.
  
Key responsibilities:
  • Leading inventory reconciliations between general ledger and sub-ledgers, investigating and resolving discrepancies
  • Delivering cost accounting analysis, including review of standard costs, BOMs, and variance drivers
  • Maintaining accurate inventory valuation (weighted average / standard costing)
  • Preparing inventory reporting, dashboards, and KPI analysis for management
  • Driving process improvement initiatives across inventory, systems, and controls
  • Supporting month-end close, including inventory journals, accruals, and adjustments
  • Partnering cross-functionally with supply chain, procurement, and operations to improve data integrity and performance
  
  
About You
You are a commercially astute finance professional with strong technical grounding in inventory and cost accounting, combined with the ability to influence stakeholders.
  
You will bring:
  • Proven experience in Finance Business Partnering, Inventory Accounting, or Cost Accounting roles
  • Background in FMCG, retail, manufacturing, or other high-volume environments
  • Strong understanding of inventory valuation (MAP/WAC/standard costing) and variance analysis
  • Experience with SAP is a non-negotiable  
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Strong analytical capability with attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate financial insights to non-finance stakeholders
  • A proactive mindset with a focus on continuous improvement and process optimisation
