Our client is a well-established FMCG business operating within the chilled and packaged food category. The business has a strong focus on innovation, quality, and delivering commercially successful products across both branded and private label ranges.
Operating in a fast-paced and structured NPD environment, the organisation is currently investing in its product development capability and is seeking an experienced NPD Technologist to support a growing pipeline of new product initiatives.
About the Role
The NPD Technologist will play a key role in delivering end-to-end product development activities from concept through to commercialisation. This is a hands-on role within a small team, managing multiple concurrent projects across a variety of product categories.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading and supporting end-to-end NPD projects from concept to launch
- Developing new and improved recipes in line with project briefs and timelines
- Conducting bench work, prototyping, and product testing
- Assessing and trialling alternative raw materials and ingredients
- Supporting product scale-up and commercial production trials
- Contributing to process improvement and continuous development initiatives
- Supporting product costing, feasibility assessments, and technical evaluation
- Working closely with manufacturing teams during trials and production runs
- Providing input into formulation, ingredient functionality, and sensory outcomes
- Supporting documentation including batch cards, SOPs, and product specifications
Skills & Experience
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Degree in Food Science, Food Technology, or related discipline
- 2+ years’ experience in FMCG or food manufacturing product development
- Strong experience in formulation, product development, or process development
- Exposure to multi-ingredient food products
- Strong understanding of sensory evaluation, flavour, and texture development
- Experience working within structured NPD or stage-gate environments
- Strong commercial awareness and ability to balance cost, quality, and innovation
- Strong communication skills with ability to work across technical and operational teams
- Creative, proactive, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment
- Private label or co-manufacturing experience highly regarded
