A purpose-led organisation making a genuine difference across Australia is seeking an experienced Payroll Manager to lead a high-performing payroll function during an exciting period of growth.
Reporting to the Head of Finance Operations, this role offers the opportunity to combine technical payroll leadership with people management, stakeholder engagement and continuous improvement, all within a values-driven environment.
The Role
This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for the accurate and compliant delivery of end-to-end payroll services. You will lead and develop a small payroll team, oversee the Australian payroll, and provide advisory support across awards, legislation and payroll reporting. You’ll also play a key role in system improvements, business projects and strengthening governance and controls.
Key responsibilities include:
- Managing end-to-end payroll processing in line with legislation, awards and internal policy
- Overseeing obligations including PAYG, superannuation, WorkCover, payroll tax and statutory reporting
- Leading and coaching a team of payroll professionals with a strong customer-service mindset
- Partnering closely with People & Culture and Finance on legislative changes, reporting and compliance
- Driving process improvement, system optimisation and payroll-related projects
- Supporting broader finance requirements including reconciliations and statutory returns
About You
You are a confident and detail-oriented payroll leader with a strong grasp of Australian payroll legislation and the ability to operate in a complex, multi-award environment. You enjoy leading teams, working collaboratively with stakeholders and balancing operational delivery with continuous improvement.
You will bring:
- Proven experience managing payroll functions and leading payroll teams
- Extensive prior knowledge using iChris / Chris21
- Strong knowledge of Australian payroll legislation, awards and compliance requirements
- Experience managing payroll for complex workforces, including multiple awards and salary packaging
- Excellent communication, organisational and stakeholder management skills
- High attention to detail, analytical capability and customer focus
