Our client is a well-regarded retail business operating within a large-scale, fast-moving payroll function. With a strong presence across Australia and a high-volume workforce, they are committed to delivering accurate, compliant payroll while continuously enhancing systems and processes.
Following internal changes, an opportunity has arisen for an experienced Payroll Officer to join the team on a permanent basis. This position is based in the Melbourne CBD and offers hybrid flexibility, with 2 days working from home.
Key Responsibilities
• End-to-end processing of high-volume payroll on a fortnightly basis across a large retail employee base
• Interpreting and applying the General Retail Industry Award (GRIA) along with relevant legislation
• Managing employee lifecycle activities including onboarding, terminations, pay changes, and leave processing
• Responding to payroll queries from both store and head office staff, ensuring timely resolution
• Maintaining compliance with Fair Work requirements, taxation, and superannuation obligations
• Performing payroll reconciliations and assisting with reporting requirements
• Ensuring accuracy of employee records, timesheets, and leave balances
• Contributing to ongoing process and system improvements within the payroll function
About You
• Minimum 4 years’ experience in an end-to-end, high-volume payroll position
• Background in retail payroll environments with a solid understanding of GRIA or similar Awards
• Experience working with large payroll or ERP systems
• Strong knowledge of Australian payroll legislation and compliance standards
• Effective communicator with the ability to liaise across store networks and head office teams
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to prioritise and meet deadlines in a busy environment
