A well-established, wholly Australian-owned distributor of non-power cabling and connectivity products is seeking a technically grounded Product Manager to join their Brisbane-based team. This is a hands-on, enabling role at the intersection of product knowledge, technical sales support, and compliance management - suited to someone who thrives on being the go-to resource for a high-performing national sales team.
The business operates across communications, mining and industrial, security, and transport sectors, supplying a broad product range including copper LAN, fibre optic, instrumentation, and security cabling to the electrical wholesale market. With four national warehouses and a strong proprietary brand, the organisation competes on technical depth and product breadth.
This is a genuine growth opportunity, if you enjoy translating product complexity into practical outcomes and want to build expertise within a specialist distribution environment, this role is worth a close look.
ABOUT THE ROLE
Reporting directly to the Head of Product & Supply, the Product Manager serves as the technical backbone for six national Technical Sales Representatives. The role is dual in nature: day-to-day sales support and portfolio compliance management.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Providing responsive technical product support to the national sales team - handling product specification queries, application questions, and customer-facing product comparisons across copper, fibre optic, instrumentation, security, and transport cabling
- Managing product compliance obligations across the portfolio, including RCM (Regulatory Compliance Mark) documentation, EESS registration, AS/CA S008 (Customer Cabling Products), and alignment with the AS/NZS ISO/IEC 11801 structured cabling standards framework
- Liaising with third-party brand partners and proprietary product teams to maintain current specifications, compliance documentation, and technical datasheets
- Supporting the preparation of technical submissions and compliance declarations for infrastructure project tenders across roads, rail, tunnels, commercial, and government procurement
- Monitoring changes to relevant Australian and international standards (AS/NZS, AS/CA, ACMA, ISO/IEC) and ensuring the product portfolio remains current and compliant
- Assisting with new product introductions - including technical documentation, supplier qualification materials, and market-readiness assessments
- Creating and maintaining customer-facing technical content: spec sheets, product comparison documents, and application guides
ABOUT YOU
You are technically minded, organised, and genuinely service-oriented. You understand that this role exists to make others more effective and you are energised by that, not frustrated by it.
You will bring:
- Minimum 3 years of relevant technical experience in a product, compliance, technical sales, or specification role
- Industry background in telecommunications, electrical, or communications - candidates from adjacent technical industries such as data networking, fire and security, building services, or AV/broadcast infrastructure will also be considered
- Demonstrated experience managing product compliance against a recognised standards framework - Australian Standards (RCM, EESS, AS/CA) or a comparable equivalent
- The ability to read, interpret, and apply technical product specifications and datasheets with confidence
- Familiarity with structured cabling standards (AS/NZS ISO/IEC 11801 series) is advantageous but not a prerequisite
- Strong communication skills - the ability to translate technical product information clearly for both technical and non-technical audiences
- High attention to detail and a disciplined approach to compliance documentation and record management
- A collaborative, can-do disposition - you are comfortable in a support-and-enable function and don't need to own commercial outcomes to feel engaged
- Stability and commitment - the organisation is investing in your growth; a track record of considered tenure will be well regarded
WHY THIS ROLE
- Join an organisation with a genuine reputation for technical excellence in it's market - you will be working with products and standards that matter
- A role with real ownership - you will manage the compliance framework, not just support it
- Collaborative, friendly team culture with long staff tenure and visible investment in employee wellbeing
- Daily on-site catering provided - the office is known for its warm, team-first environment
- Genuine growth pathway for the right candidate - the business is building this role with the future in mind, not just filling a gap
