We're seeking a Production Manager to lead a made-to-order manufacturing operation producing custom-engineered access solutions in steel and aluminium. This hire is about adding further leadership focus to safety, 5S and continuous improvement as the site continues to grow.
Reports to: General Manager
Hours: 7:30am–3:30pm Mon/Tue/Wed/Fri, 7:30am–4:00pm Thursday (38-hour week)
About the role
You'll take hands-on ownership of the factory floor, working directly with the team and supporting section leaders day to day. This isn't a desk-bound role - you'll be visible on the floor, engaging with employees and building credibility through your presence, while the business grows toward a larger team over time.
Key responsibilities
- Lead day-to-day production, staff, materials and equipment planning
- Drive safety, 5S workplace organisation and continuous improvement initiatives
- Manage production scheduling to meet customer delivery timelines
- Oversee product quality against customer requirements
- Support stock purchasing, monthly stocktakes and consignment bookings
- Lead daily toolbox meetings and ensure OHS compliance across the floor
- Provide technical advice and guidance to factory employees
You're a hands-on production leader who's comfortable in a practical, manually assembled manufacturing environment - this is not a sterile or highly automated setting, and you'll need to be genuinely engaged on the floor, not just managing from reports.
You will ideally have:
- Proven production management experience in discrete manufacturing, fabrication or another custom/make-to-order environment
- Comfort managing a manually assembled product with varied bills of materials
- Demonstrated people leadership and factory-floor credibility
- A strong safety focus and experience driving continuous improvement (Lean principles highly regarded)
- Realistic expectations of a hands-on, practical manufacturing environment and the commute involved
- Genuine scope to shape safety and continuous improvement from the ground up
