Project Manager – Portfolio Management Improvement

Sharp & Carter is partnering with a major Queensland Government department to identify an experienced Project Manager to support a significant portfolio management improvement initiative within a large infrastructure environment.
This role sits within a broader transformation program focused on improving portfolio, financial and asset management capability across a division responsible for approximately $2 billion in annual infrastructure investment and a $40 billion asset base. The program has been established to address growing complexity across governance, asset lifecycle management, portfolio oversight and financial controls. 

As the Project Manager – Portfolio Management Improvement, you will play a key role in helping embed a more scalable, consistent and governed project lifecycle across the division. This is a business-led transformation environment where success will require strong delivery discipline, stakeholder influence, change leadership and the ability to bring structure to complexity. 

The Role You will be responsible for leading the Portfolio Management Improvement stream, managing integrated schedules, milestones, dependencies, risks and governance activities to ensure successful delivery outcomes. You will work closely with business, project and executive stakeholders to coordinate delivery, improve project maturity and support broader program outcomes. 
Key responsibilities include:
  • Leading the delivery of the Portfolio Management Improvement project stream
  • Developing and managing integrated schedules, milestones, dependencies and critical path activities
  • Supporting the development and implementation of a Project Lifecycle Framework, Governance and Assurance Framework, and Portfolio Prioritisation Framework 
  • Managing project risks, issues, interdependencies and change impacts
  • Preparing clear reporting, executive updates, decision logs and governance artefacts
  • Leading stakeholder engagement across business, project and executive groups
  • Supporting organisational change management and capability uplift
  • Driving continuous improvement, lessons learned and process refinement across the program environment [
About You You will be an experienced project professional who is comfortable working in complex, fast-paced and changing environments. You will bring strong delivery capability, but just as importantly, you will have the stakeholder maturity to influence, build trust and create alignment across diverse groups.
You will ideally bring:
  • Strong project management experience in complex, multi-stakeholder environments
  • Experience managing integrated schedules, governance, risks, issues, dependencies and reporting
  • Demonstrated experience delivering business change or transformation projects
  • Strong stakeholder engagement, communication, negotiation and relationship management skills
  • Ability to coordinate cross-functional teams and maintain delivery momentum
  • A practical, fit-for-purpose approach to project management
  • Experience improving project governance, assurance, prioritisation or delivery frameworks
  • Proficiency across Microsoft-based project and workflow management tools
    • Exposure to infrastructure, asset management, building, construction or government environments will be highly regarded
