Key Roles and Responsibilities
  
This role will play an important part in strategically analysing PoM’s key customers, regions and markets, defining and analysing current issues and determining or delivering business responses.  The Senior Commercial Analyst will report to the EGM - Commercial, and will work with key internal and external stakeholder groups across the business to build the information required to develop the various strategies, plans and activities that are managed by the Commercial Division.  The role involves working with the EGM Commercial, together with Business Development, Property and Intermodal teams in identifying and scoping potential future strategic opportunities and risks relevant to the current and future interests of PoM.
  
Provision of robust commercial analysis
  • Lead the analysis, review and reporting of technical and commercial aspects of strategic issues critical to the Port of Melbourne business (Industries, Customers, Regions, Competitors, Shipping Lines, etc).
  • Use data modelling practices to analyse issues and findings and create recommendations for strategic and operational improvements and changes.
  • Ensure performance evaluations and industry benchmarking is undertaken to inform recommendations / strategic directions.
  • Consider opportunities and potential risks attached to recommendations or existing initiatives & directions.
  • Engage stakeholders in creating solutions to issues and communicate the benefits of proposals across Divisions to address any uncertainty and concern.
  • Document findings and implementation plans/pathways for Management and/or Board Approval. Ensure information is complete, timely and accurate.
Co-ordinating completion of work packages and business cases
  • Lead and coordinate the delivery of business cases for executive / and or Board approval, including; risk, options analysis, problem definition, commercial position and business value proposition.
Project Management and/or coordination
  • Consistent with PoMs Project Management Framework, provide standard project management functions, including:
    • Project scoping and planning
    • Reporting
    • Risk management
    • Scheduling
    • Procurement, tender assessment and engagement
    • Contact execution and management.
    • Establish and manage project staff and third party resources to meet project milestones.
    • Establish and manage project budgets in line PoMs internal systems and delegations of authority.
Reporting
  • Lead the Board Reporting task for the Commercial Division
  • Lead and document the Commercial Divisional corporate plan
  • Lead and report on progress towards successful achievement of Commercial Division KPIs
Other
  • Build relationships, by engaging with sponsors, stakeholders and executive / senior management as well as with operational teams
  • Create briefs that facilitate and enable cross team communication and collaboration
  • Undertake other duties as directed by the EGM Commercial.
The Ideal Candidate
  
You will have come from a strategic and analytical position gained in a Management Consulting / Corporate Finance, or similar Strategy based role in Industry. An important aspect for this role is communication and collaboration with stakeholders, both internal and external, with excellent written skills a must.  This role would be really suited to someone who enjoys the technical aspects of an analytical role but also who is able to communicate and enjoys discussion and collaboration.
