About the Role
Reporting to the Director of Innovation & Quality, this is a newly created position designed to take day-to-day ownership of the quality function and provide the business with stronger dedicated leadership in food safety and quality management. With four direct reports and a broader team of quality professionals across multiple sites, you will lead a well-structured function.
The core mandate of this role is to take ownership of the quality function end-to-end, driving continuous improvement across sub-contract manufacturing relationships, managing a high frequency of customer audits, and maintaining the FSSC22000-certified Food Safety Management System to a high standard.
Key Responsibilities
- Own and continuously improve the FSSC22000 Food Safety Management System
- Lead HACCP, Food Safety Plans and Preventive Controls across internal and subcontract sites
- Manage internal and external audit programs including high-level customer audits
- Ensure compliance with FSANZ, Codex Alimentarius and international import regulations
- Oversee allergen management, environmental monitoring and foreign object controls
- Manage CoA release, batch record approval and traceability and recall readiness
- Lead and develop a team of four direct reports across quality functions
- Drive CI initiatives across supplier quality, hygiene, process capability and product consistency
- Provide food safety, quality and GMP training across the business
- Support innovation and strategic projects with technical and food safety input
- Manage the quality department budget and reporting of KPIs
Skills & Experience
- Degree in Food Science, Food Technology or related scientific discipline
- Significant experience in food safety and quality management in food manufacturing
- Experience in infant formula or infant formula ingredients strongly preferred
- Background in spray drying and powder manufacturing advantageous
- Broad total manufacturing exposure — not limited to one process or site type
- Working knowledge of FSSC22000, HACCP and GFSI standards
- Lead Food Safety & Quality Auditor qualification
- Strong communicator with the ability to build cross-functional relationships
- Proactive, improvement-oriented approach, comfortable driving change
