The Position 

This is a permanent, full-time HSE Advisor role based in Brisbane with frequent local site travel involved. Reporting to the HSE Manager, this is a key role which will work as part of a larger team of 12 to provide hands-on WHS support to their network of sites. The WHS Advisor Systems & Reporting provides a high-quality health safety and wellbeing service and supports the development and implementation of the Health & Safety system and related policies, processes and capabilities which supports safe workplaces. Your primary focus of your role will be researching, reviewing and writing the organisation’s safety system documentation including but not limited to policy, procedures, guidelines, training, communications, audits and compliance guides. Your consultative approach will ensure improvement in the company’s safety performance culture. The successful candidate will have flexibility in structuring their local travel and site visits and have the option to work between home, or the two office locations which are based on the north side of Brisbane and inner CBD.
  
Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of processes and initiatives, undertake research and provide advice and recommendations to senior management for improvements to the company’s safety management system and risk management processes to deliver practical and measurable safety improvements in WHS legislative compliance, performance and culture;
  • Lead the development and coordination of the WHS audit program, with responsibilities for WHS audits, inspections, investigations, risk assessments and reporting;
  • Maintain a comprehensive risk register, with robust controls for risks identified, implemented and monitored for effectiveness and compliance;
  • Monitor and analyse incident and investigation progress and outcomes to report on trends and identify and recommend WHS improvements for application at system and site levels, and provide specialised advice and targeted coaching to build capability and improve health and safety compliance and performance;
  • Design, develop and deliver training, information, resources and communication to improve stakeholder health and safety knowledge and understand the expected compliance with WHS legislation;
  • Proactively share technical expertise and business knowledge within the team’s area of responsibility including preparing and presenting documentation, resources and training.
Skills and Experience
  • Tertiary qualifications in Workplace Health & Safety, Accredited WHS Auditor qualification, Certificate IV in Assessment & Workplace Training, Fire Safety Advisor, current valid Queensland Driver’s licence, and eligibility to hold a Blue Card;
  • Demonstrated effective experience in an adept health & safety professional advisory role providing specialised advice and services within a large and decentralised organisation;
  • Demonstrated success in delivering a professional WHS service with positive and sustainable improvements in safety culture, local capacity building and WHS compliance and performance;
  • Capability in developing, conducting and reporting on WHS audits;
  • Problem solving mindset with a history of driving health, safety and wellness improvements through behavioural change;
  • High level written and verbal communication skills with the ability to engage across multiple stakeholders and to simplify complex information for the end user.
