TELL US ABOUT YOUR LIFESTYLE.
HOW DO YOU MAINTAIN AND BALANCE YOUR WORK, FAMILY OF 3 CHILDREN, HUSBAND AND 5 PETS?
As a working mother of 3, the notion of balance is a bit of an elusive one. That said I consider myself extremely fortunate to work for an organisation that supports my need for flexibility and has faith in my capacity to deliver on work commitments. I’m also very grateful to have an understanding and encouraging partner.
Weekdays are extremely busy, so the weekends are precious parcels of uninterrupted family time. We usually spend them together in pursuit of one adventure or another. We try and get out of the city as much as possible as we relish time outdoors, in nature.
Our home, while hectic at times (we also have three cats and two rather large dogs), is a very warm, safe and loving environment. Our kids are wonderfully unique individuals and very self reliant; everyone contributes, in their own way, to the smooth running of the household.
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO THOSE WHO HAVE THE GOAL OF BECOME A LEADER?
Just go for it. Try and enjoy what you do otherwise you won’t thrive. Always treat your colleagues with respect and consideration. Share your experiences and knowledge freely.
WHAT ARE A FEW RESOURCES YOU WOULD RECOMMEND TO SOMEONE LOOKING TO GAIN INSIGHT INTO BECOMING A LEADER?
Look after your health and well-being above all else
Look for inspiration everywhere, not just in your own field
Understand your leadership style. Assess your strengths and weaknesses and fill the gaps accordingly
Always acknowledge the great work people are doing around you because behind every great leader there is a great team and goodwill begets goodwill
WHAT ARE THE MOST IMPORTANT DECISIONS YOU MAKE AS A LEADER WITHIN YOUR ORGANISATION?
I’d say the most important decisions I make as a leader are how to conduct myself in any given moment. I always try and move, and lead, from a place of integrity, compassion and experience.
WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO ENSURE YOU CONTINUE TO GROW AND DEVELOP AS A LEADER?
Looking after myself
Keeping abreast of industry trends
Ongoing professional development
Always looking for opportunities to learn from others
