About the role

As a senior leader within the Legal, Compliance, Risk & Assurance department, this role reports directly to the General Counsel. Tasked with ensuring adherence to legal and regulatory standards, this role encompasses overseeing governance activities, maintaining compliance frameworks, and promoting ethical conduct throughout the university.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop and maintain the university's governance framework, policies, and procedures to align with legal requirements and support organizational objectives. This includes regular review and updates to ensure compliance and relevance.
  • Keep abreast of regulatory developments affecting the university, assess their impact, and implement necessary responses. Conduct audits to evaluate compliance levels and address areas of non-compliance.
  • Oversee regulatory filings, reports, and disclosures, serving as the primary liaison with regulatory agencies and external auditors.
  • Establish and uphold integrity frameworks, providing guidance on ethical decision-making and managing complaints and misconduct processes.
  • Continuously assess and improve the effectiveness of regulatory and integrity functions through feedback and reporting mechanisms.
  • Lead the Integrity and Compliance team, fostering a culture of transparency, accountability, and performance excellence. Develop team capabilities and align talent management with organizational strategies.
  • Ad hoc duties as University secretary for the purposes of elections and student appeals.
About you
  • Degree or Post Graduate qualification in business administration, governance, law, or related discipline. 
  • Current unrestricted Legal practice certificate
  • Significant experience in governance, compliance, or related fields, ideally within higher education or large complex organizations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of governance principles, regulatory requirements, and best practices in the Australian higher education sector.
  • Strong strategic, analytical, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively and influence decision-making at all levels.
  • Proven leadership experience, including the ability to motivate teams, manage priorities, and drive results in a dynamic environment.
  • Open to Legal professionals with relevant compliance experience.
