Reporting to the Senior Manager- Corporate Communications & Media, the Media and Communications Specialist is responsible for contributing new promotional ideas, and engaging with the media to implement assigned promotional activities.
Responsibilities
- Publicise our organisation’s role, achievements, and social contribution
- Drive awareness of and demand for our services
- Drive public participation in campaigns; and shield and defend our brands reputation from the impact of potentially negative issues.
- Proactively identify and capitalise on opportunities - in the content and communication calendar, the daily news cycle and more broadly – to utilise media/public relations techniques to advance achievement of our Missions
- Proactively engage with media outlets – personally, and via our PR agency – to achieve positive media exposure, and mitigate the impact of negative issues;
- Enable the designated spokespeople to engage successfully with the media; and leverage their expert written communication skills from time to time to “ghost-write” important written communications from executive leaders.
- Engage with the Membership and Network team to source newsworthy media stories to positively promote the work of Sub Branches with the aim of increasing membership and increasing brand awareness.
- Execute media/public relations components of the Programs of Work developed by key business units and other Marketing teams in the pursuit of their respective missions.
- Distribute the daily media report to internal stakeholders and include summaries capturing the news across our ecosystems, as well as recommending to the Media Relations Manager opportunities to advance brands position and policies in support of our Marketing missions.
- Maintain and manage the corporate key message library to ensure approved communication messaging is being consistently disseminated externally, and work closely with internal stakeholders to keep the library up-to-date and approved through the Risk and Compliance team.
- Within the Communication and Creative team, work in tandem with the social media team on proactive media stories
- Tertiary qualification in Communications or a closely related field.
- 3-5 years’ experience in media relations and/or corporate communication including some experience in issues management
- Significant demonstrated expertise proactively creating media opportunities and events in support of organisational objectives.
