Gladstone Area Water Board (GAWB) is a commercial Statutory Authority constituted under the Water Act 2000 whose purpose is to supply bulk water to major consumers in the Gladstone Region. GAWB manages a diverse portfolio of assets including major water storage, pump stations, pipelines, storage tanks, and water treatment plants. The organisation also supports recreational facilities and fish fingerling production and stocking programs. About the Role
A newly created role reporting to the General Manager- Network, the Network Operations Manager to lead the operational delivery of its potable and raw water networks. This leadership role is accountable for ensuring the safe, efficient, and compliant performance of GAWB’s operational assets, including water treatment plants, pump stations, reservoirs, and distribution systems. The position oversees both the Water Treatment and Network Operations teams, with a strong focus on water quality and reliability of supply.
The successful candidate will play a critical role in delivering operational excellence, emergency response coordination, and continuous improvement initiatives while providing specialist advice to the Board and Executive Leadership Team. Key responsibilities include:
- Manage daily operations of GAWB’s potable and raw water networks to ensure safe, reliable, and compliant service delivery.
- Lead and support multidisciplinary teams, embedding a performance-driven and safety-focused culture.
- Develop and manage business plans, budgets, and performance reports for the Network Operations function.
- Drive continuous improvement through the review and enhancement of operational systems, technologies, and practices.
- Ensure compliance with dam safety and emergency management obligations in collaboration with internal stakeholders.
- Provide timely financial reporting, cost estimates, and recommendations aligned with operational objectives.
- Engage and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to optimise service outcomes.
You will be an experienced operational leader with deep knowledge of operational process environments (water experience not essential) and strong business management acumen. You’ll bring a proven ability to manage complex infrastructure, motivate diverse teams, and work effectively with senior stakeholders in a dynamic, service-driven environment.
Essential Qualifications & Experience
- Tertiary qualification in Operations Management or a relevant discipline.
- Demonstrated leadership capabilities with experience managing multidisciplinary teams, in similar industrial/process/infrastructure environments.
- Strong business and financial management experience.
- Current “C” Class Driver’s Licence.
- Desirable but not essential will be an understanding of water networks, including the application of the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines and other relevant legislation/frameworks.
