About the Role
The Transport Scheduler & Optimiser plays a vital role in coordinating daily freight movements while being the key point of contact between internal teams, carriers, and customers. You'll be responsible for receiving and scheduling transport orders, optimising routes and loads via a TMS (including OPSI PLATO), and managing execution through to proof of delivery. This role relies heavily on clear communication, attention to detail, and strong customer service skills to keep things running smoothly and proactively resolve issues as they arise.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the full transport process from order receipt through to delivery confirmation
- Optimise routes, loads, and capacity using internal TMS tools (including OPSI PLATO)
- Allocate orders to compliant carriers and ensure all processes meet service and safety standards
- Monitor daily operations, manage exceptions, and prevent service delays
- Keep transport records and master data up to date and accurate
- Communicate clearly and professionally with carrier and customer teams to ensure seamless coordination
- Conduct compliance checks in line with Chain of Responsibility (CoR) requirements
- Support business continuity and contribute to process improvements across the team
The Ideal Candidate
- Strong experience in transport scheduling, logistics coordination, or freight operations
- Skilled communicator who builds rapport easily with both internal and external stakeholders
- Proficient in transport systems and route optimisation tools
- Highly organised with great attention to detail and time management skills
- Calm and capable when managing fluctuating workloads or service disruptions
- Collaborative team player who can also work independently with confidence
- Practical understanding of transport regulations and CoR standards
