Our client is a market leader in their space, providing professional services for some of Australia's most well recognised major events and facilities. This is a newly created role to lead and elevate their payroll function.
The Role
Reporting to the CFO and overseeing a team of 2, this role will:
- Provide leadership and direction to the payroll team, including the Payroll Manager and Payroll Officer.
- Ensure payroll compliance with Fair Work legislation, industrial awards, taxation, superannuation, and all other statutory obligations.
- Conduct regular internal audits and implement proactive controls to reduce risk and ensure integrity.
- Own the payroll system configuration and optimisation in alignment with evolving business needs.
- Drive integration between the payroll system and HRIS in partnership with People & Culture.
- Act as the subject matter expert in award interpretation and ensure correct and consistent application of pay rates, penalties, loadings, and entitlements.
- Work closely with the People & Culture team to ensure alignment across employee data, onboarding, and reporting.
- Partner with Finance for reconciliations, GL mapping, reporting, and month-end/year-end processes.
- Develop and deliver regular payroll reports, metrics, and insights for leadership.
- Identify opportunities for system improvements, automation, and policy updates.
The successful applicant will have
- Extensive experience in payroll management, within a medium/large scale business
- Deep understanding of Australian payroll legislation, modern awards and compliance requirements.
- Proven experience in managing and developing high-performing payroll teams.
- Demonstrated capability in managing payroll system configuration and integration with HRIS platforms.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with high attention to detail.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders.
