The Role
you will be a crucial member of the actuarial services team.  This is an important role in assisting the team meet responsibilities relating to the quality of the actuarial advice provided. This role will have a particular focus on claims forecasting and co-ordination of forecasting across health insurance portfolios. Your responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
  • Assist with producing, determining and delivery of forecasts to support reporting and decision-making in Commercial Finance and various business areas.
  • Undertake analysis to support the business in understanding trends and variances underlying the actual experience and the forecast.
  • Update and monitor the assumptions underlying each forecast.
  • Assist in providing forecasts and scenario analysis to support pricing decisions.
  • Assist in forecasts as part of the rate change submission
  • Perform analysis and identify key claiming trends and their drivers
  • Evaluate how this may impact future claims costs with consideration of product specific and service type specific changes.
  • Participate in development and maintenance of forecasting tools, with a focus on timely and accurate production that meet the business’s evolving needs.
  • Communicate proactively with the Head of Forecasting on any unusual data, trend process, or technical outcomes throughout the forecasting cycle.
  • Co-ordinate with various business areas, with a particular focus on ensuring timely and accurate data import from other divisions to the forecast model.
The Ideal Candidate
  • Fellow or Associate member of the Institute of Actuaries of Australia (or similar overseas actuarial body)
  • 2-3 years’ experience working in an actuarial role
  • Proven experience in using analytical insights with judgment to provide advice to stakeholders
  • Strong actuarial modelling skills (Advanced MS Excel skills, knowledge in SAS/SQL/Tableau is an advantage)
