Incorporated in 1938, Our client is a leading Victorian FMCG business with an extensive national retail footprint. With world class facilities strategically located across Central Victoria, they are seeking to appoint their first Legal Counsel to help the business navigate through it's ambitious growth trajectory in conjunction with the senior leadership team.
  
The role:
  
Reporting to Chief Financial Officer,  you will provide strategic advice to the senior leadership team and other key stakeholders within the business. The successful candidate will be an in-house generalist, responsible for managing all legal matters to ensure operations are conducted in an ethical and compliant manner.

Your duties will include but are not limited to:
  • Support the execution of the strategic agenda and business plans considering the broader, commercial, legal, industry and regulatory framework.
  • Manage and work in close partnership with a variety of stakeholders and corresponding counterparties, including the joint-venture partners, regulators, government authorities.
  • Proactively provide pragmatic and timely legal opinions, conduct legal research and where necessary, engage and manage external counsel in an efficient and cost-effective manner.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate key legal contracts to achieve business objectives, minimise risk and ensure compliance with company policies, laws, and regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with Company policy and provide proper training and support in the areas of corporate governance, and competition and consumer law matters.

  • Commercial law experience as a qualified lawyer in-house and/or in a law firm 
  • Strong understanding of Australian laws and regulations, including contract, commercial, corporate, employment, consumer protection and competition.
  • Effective communication skills, including written and presentation skills.
  • Ability to guide, negotiate and Influence key stakeholders
