About the Role
An experienced Data Governance Specialist is required to lead the establishment of data ownership and governance across the organisation. This contract role will build on an existing data governance framework and focus on formalising policies, onboarding governance roles, and embedding governance practices across business and data teams.
You will work closely with data professionals and key stakeholders to ensure governance principles are consistently applied across claims, policy, and customer systems.
Contract period: 2 March - 30 June 2026
Location: Full-time onsite, Brisbane CBD
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and formalise data governance policies and procedures
- Establish and onboard data governance roles, including Data Stewards and Data Custodians
- Ensure compliance with governance standards covering data quality, lineage, and integrity
- Embed governance principles into business processes and technical solutions
- Produce clear documentation and training materials to support governance adoption
- Proven experience implementing data governance frameworks, policies, and procedures
- Strong understanding of data quality, data lineage, and data integrity
- Experience onboarding and training data governance roles
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to collaborate with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Experience working in insurance or other highly regulated environments
- Familiarity with medallion architecture or similar data layering models
- Experience with Azure Databricks or other cloud-based data platforms
- Lead an enterprise-level data governance initiative
- Work within a complex, highly regulated government environment
- Clearly defined contract scope with strong stakeholder engagement
