The Role
  
The business is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to contribute to the design and development of innovative mechanical systems and components. This is a hands-on design role that spans the full product lifecycle, from concept through to manufacturing, working closely with trades, engineers, and project teams to deliver unique and technically challenging projects.
  
Key responsibilities
  • Design mechanical components and select appropriate materials using sound engineering principles and CAD tools, ensuring performance, safety, and manufacturability.
  • Support the full product development lifecycle by coordinating design solutions through to manufacture, collaborating with trades and technical stakeholders throughout.
  • Iterate designs and develop prototypes to meet project requirements and performance objectives.
  • Provide expert technical support to project managers, producers, and designers to enable successful project delivery.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate documentation and technical reports, including specifications, drawings, operator manuals, and procedures.
  • Author and update QA procedures where required to support compliance and quality assurance activities.
Skills and Experience
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Experience in mechanical design, preferably within a manufacturing or product development environment.
  • Strong proficiency in SolidWorks or similar 3D CAD software.
  • Knowledge of hazard analysis techniques for designing safe systems (e.g. Energy and Toxicity Analysis, FMEA).
  • Familiarity with a wide range of materials and fabrication techniques, particularly welding and machining processes.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems, materials, and design for manufacture principles.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication and collaboration skills.
