A leading manufacturer in specialised industrial vehicles is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join their dynamic engineering team. This is a hands-on role where you will play a key part in designing and refining mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems, working with a collaborative team that values creativity, practical thinking, and continuous improvement.
The Role
This position plays a vital role in capturing and refining system designs that support the company’s robust production and product development goals. You will regularly liaise with production and workshop teams to resolve technical issues and ensure product improvements are implemented effectively. This role will report into the Engineering Manager, and will be based in Australia.
Key responsibilities
- Develop detailed mechanical designs and drawings using CAD software
- Design and optimise pneumatic and hydraulic systems for vacuum tanker applications
- Capture and document existing system configurations
- Ensure all designs comply with safety, regulatory, and industry standards
- Identify and implement continuous improvement and cost-reduction opportunities
- Liaise with suppliers and manage third-party installations
- Contribute to R&D initiatives to enhance current systems
- NZ Citizenship
- Degree in Mechatronics Engineering or Mechanical Engineering
- Hands-on experience with fluid power systems is preferable
- Solid background in mechanical design, with a focus on hydraulic and pneumatic systems
- Experience in the municipal, agricultural, or automotive sectors
- Strong R&D mindset with a structured problem-solving approach
- Proficient with CAD tools (SolidWorks, AutoCAD)
