Council’s 2022-2026 Corporate Plan aims to deliver a smart economy, a strong community, environment and liveability, service excellence and an outstanding organisation.

With the vision as Australia’s most sustainable region - Healthy, Smart, and Creative, council is at the forefront of delivering a number of region-shaping projects that will see the region become a hub for innovation, entrepreneurship and creativity, along with opportunities and a lifestyle for all to enjoy.

About the Position
Reporting to the Manager Environment and Sustainability Policy, this leadership position is responsible for overseeing a small specialist team responsible for preparing and delivering long-term strategic  planning, policy and projects for open space and social policy matters. This includes leading, managing and monitoring the regional long-term network planning and standards for open space (e.g. sport grounds, recreation parks,) and social infrastructure (e.g. libraries, community facilities etc) as a key tool to ensure the adequate provision for existing and future needs of the Sunshine Coast community.

In addition to providing significant input into Council’s Award winning Environment and Liveability Strategy, the role will be responsible for several significant open space and social infrastructure projects, such as the Sippy Downs Library and Community Venue; advocating for open space outcomes associated with our master planned communities and the new Maroochy CBD; and planning for a new 65ha Sunshine Coast Ecological Park proposed in the Hinterland.

This position offers a unique opportunity to shape long term open space, social infrastructure and liveability outcomes for the Sunshine Coast region with a focus on transitioning the community to a more consolidated urban footprint in the coastal corridor.

About the Person
As an accomplished senior professional with experience and qualifications in open space and/or social planning, you will bring your leadership experience combined with a strong understanding of strategic policy development. Adept at building relationships and working with a wide range of stakeholders, you also understand how to work within a public sector context – whether that be local, state or federal – with an appreciation of the nuances and legislative environment. Excellent communication skills are also critical to success, given the broad scope and impact this area will have across Council and the region.
