The Role
Reporting to the Reporting & Planning Manager, the Payroll Accountant plays a key role in ensuring payroll transactions are accurately recorded and reconciled within the finance system.
Acting as the link between Payroll/HR, Finance and the wider business, you will ensure payroll data flows correctly from the payroll system into SAP while providing analysis and reporting to support financial planning and decision-making.
This position offers strong exposure to multiple finance functions including FP&A, financial accounting and taxation, while contributing to process improvements and compliance across payroll-related accounting activities.
Responsibilities
- Manage the interface of payroll data from the payroll system into SAP
• Work closely with Payroll and HR teams to resolve data discrepancies and processing issues
• Post payroll-related journals and ensure accurate accounting of payroll transactions
• Prepare and maintain general ledger reconciliations for payroll balance sheet accounts
• Provide salaries and wages data to FP&A and commercial teams for budgeting and forecasting
• Analyse payroll cost movements and provide commentary on period variances
• Support tax and finance teams with payroll-related documentation (including FBT and audit requirements)
• Assist with internal and external audit queries relating to payroll accounting
• Contribute to payroll-related projects including legislative changes and system/process improvements
• Collaborate with multiple internal stakeholders across finance and business units
- Strong attention to detail and analytical mindset
• Ability to work across multiple stakeholders including HR, Payroll and Finance teams
• Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities
• Confident communicator with strong problem-solving capability
• Collaborative approach with a focus on process improvement
- Degree in Accounting, Finance or related discipline
• CA or CPA qualified (or working towards)
• Experience working with integrated ERP systems (SAP highly regarded)
• Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills
• Experience with reporting tools such as TM1 advantageous
