Reporting to the Group HR Manager and working in close partnership with the CFO and Finance Manager, this role holds strategic oversight of the Payroll function. The successful candidate will provide strong leadership to the Payroll team, driving operational excellence, compliance, and continuous improvement across the function. The position requires a hands-on yet strategic leader who can balance day-to-day operational demands with a forward-thinking approach that drives performance, process enhancement, and alignment with broader organisational goals.
- Provide strategic leadership and direction to the Payroll function, ensuring accurate and compliant delivery of all payroll activities across local and offshore teams.
- Manage, mentor, and develop a high-performing payroll team, promoting accountability, capability growth, and continuous improvement.
- Oversee the end-to-end payroll process for all employees, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with organisational and legislative requirements.
- Drive payroll governance and compliance initiatives, maintaining up-to-date knowledge of relevant awards, enterprise agreements, and employment legislation.
- Implement and enhance payroll systems, processes, and controls to improve efficiency, accuracy, and reporting capability.
- Collaborate closely with Finance, HR, and senior leadership to ensure alignment between payroll operations and broader business objectives.
- Provide expert payroll advice and insights to senior stakeholders, supporting decision-making and risk management.
- Oversee the preparation and reconciliation of payroll journals, reports, and audits, ensuring data integrity and transparency.
- Lead initiatives focused on process improvement, automation, and standardisation across payroll operations.
- Foster a culture of service excellence within the payroll function, ensuring employee queries are managed professionally and efficiently.
- Demonstrated experience leading and managing large, high-performing teams, with a focus on coaching, mentoring, and developing talent.
- Proven track record working within medium to large organisations, navigating complex structures and processes.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence and advise stakeholders at all levels.
- Strong expertise in interpreting and applying awards, enterprise agreements (EBAs), and employment legislation.
- History of driving process improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and service delivery.
- Passionate about developing and fostering team culture, building engagement, capability, and high performance.
