The Opportunity

Sharp & Carter is partnering with a well-established and highly regarded organisation located in the heart of Brisbane CBD to appoint an experienced Payroll Manager. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a business with a strong market presence and a collaborative, high-performing finance function.

Reporting directly to the Head of Finance, you will take full ownership of the payroll function while leading and developing a small team. This position will suit a hands-on Payroll Manager who thrives in an operational role and is passionate about driving efficiencies, strengthening controls, and enhancing payroll processes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage the end-to-end payroll function across a weekly payroll cycle
  • Supervise, mentor and support a team of 2. 
  • Ensure full compliance with relevant Australian legislation, awards, and enterprise agreements
  • Oversee payroll tax, superannuation, and statutory reporting requirements
  • Manage payroll reconciliations, month-end reporting, and audit processes
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives across systems and workflows
  • Act as the primary escalation point for complex payroll queries
About You
  • Demonstrated experience managing end-to-end payroll within an Australian environment
  • Strong knowledge of payroll legislation, compliance, and award interpretation
  • Proven leadership or team mentoring experience
  • Exceptional attention to detail with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Confident communicator with the ability to partner effectively with stakeholders across the business
  • Experience with large payroll systems (e.g. Chris21, MicroPay, Workday or similar) highly regarded
