About the Position
Reporting to the General Manager of Governance, Legal and Risk, as the Safeguarding Manager you will lead the Safeguarding Office, taking responsibility for developing, implementing and maintaining the safeguarding framework that will guide staff, members and volunteers.
  
In this newly created position, a key focus of your role is assisting the Society in complying with the National Catholic Safeguarding Standards, the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations and other relevant legal, reporting obligations and child safe standards.
  
The role will provide expert advice to the Safeguarding Advisory Committee, Executive Leadership Team, and Managers on safeguarding practices and compliance issues; and involves leading the development and alignment of safeguarding policies and procedures to best practice standards – this includes creating and implementing annual safeguarding work plans, and promoting continuous learning and training across the organisation. Other key responsibilities include reviewing and improving safeguarding practices for contractors and business partners, managing compliance reporting, and overseeing all safeguarding incidents and mandatory reporting. The ideal candidate will support a culture of safety, operational excellence, and continuous improvement throughout the Society.
  
About the Person
The ideal candidate will bring strong subject matter expertise on best-practice safeguarding frameworks, policies and procedures as it would relate to an organisation like Vinnies that works closely with vulnerable people.
  
You will bring:
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a relevant role (coordinator, policy development, human resources, compliance, child protection, safeguarding, etc.)
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications (human resources, management, law, social sciences or other relevant qualifications)
  • Proven record of management and reporting, including designing work plans, managing stakeholders and presenting information in clear and comprehensive ways
  • Demonstrated high level written and verbal communication skills, including well developed policy and report writing skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and facilitate change across multiple and cross cultural stakeholder groups
  • Strong conceptual, analytical and problem solving skills; strong Microsoft Office and database skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work in an environment with sensitive and confidential information
  • Understanding of and commitment to the philosophy of the St Vincent de Paul Society Queensland and an ability to work in accordance with policies and procedures to promote the values and mission of the Society
