A well-established renewable energy EPC is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer - Primary Design to set technical standards, de-risk grid approvals, and ensure HV substations are designed correctly from concept through delivery.
You’ll work closely with civil, structural, secondary and project teams, providing technical leadership on complex and high-impact projects.
About the Role
You will be responsible for leading HV primary design activities across utility-scale renewable and grid-connected projects. You’ll be involved from early concept and feasibility through to detailed design and commissioning support.
This role suits engineers who want to remain deeply technical, enjoy solving complex substation design challenges, and value quality engineering over coordination-heavy work.

- Lead HV primary design for substations (66kV and above), including AIS and GIS layouts.
- Develop and review single line diagrams, layouts and primary design documentation.
- Define earthing, insulation and primary plant design philosophy.
- Coordinate with secondary, civil and structural engineering teams.
- Interface with utilities and approval authorities on technical matters.
- Review and sign off primary design deliverables.
- Support commissioning and testing activities as required.
- 10+ years’ experience in HV substation primary design (66kV+).
- Hands-on experience with AIS and/or GIS substation design.
- Strong knowledge of Australian utility standards and AS/IEC requirements.
- Experience working on grid-connected infrastructure or renewable energy projects.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD and relevant HV design tools.
