About the Role:
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Legal Counsel to join a high-performing legal team supporting a broad range of commercial, regulatory and governance matters across a complex international organisation. Reporting to the Head of Legal, this role will act as a trusted advisor to stakeholders across the business, providing pragmatic and commercially focused legal advice.
The role offers exposure to a wide variety of work including commercial contracting, regulatory and privacy matters, intellectual property, governance and strategic projects. You will work closely with senior stakeholders across multiple business units and play a key role in supporting the organisation’s strategic objectives while balancing legal risk with commercial outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide pragmatic legal advice across a wide range of commercial, corporate and regulatory matters
- Draft, review and negotiate a broad range of commercial agreements including supplier, partnership, licensing, sponsorship and services agreements
- Identify legal and commercial risks within contracts and provide clear mitigation strategies
- Partner with internal stakeholders to deliver practical and solutions-focused advice
- Support governance initiatives, policy development and regulatory compliance frameworks
- Provide advice on intellectual property matters including licensing, brand protection and commercialisation
- Manage and instruct external legal advisers where required
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of legal processes, templates and risk management practices
- Deliver legal training and support knowledge sharing across the organisation
- Qualified Australian legal practitioner with approximately 5–8 years’ PQE in general commercial law
- Experience gained in-house or within a reputable private practice environment
- Strong commercial contracting and stakeholder engagement skills
- Ability to translate complex legal issues into clear, practical advice for business stakeholders
- Strong organisational and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage competing priorities
- Experience supporting regulatory compliance and governance matters is highly regarded
- Exposure to international legal or regulatory issues will be advantageous
