The Position

We are thrilled to be exclusively partnering with a long term mining and resources client for the recruit of a Senior Payroll Officer / Team Lead.
This position is an initial 12 month fixed-term contract based in the Brisbane CBD. As the successful candidate you will report to the Payroll Manager and be responsible for leading the payroll officers and taking ownership of the payroll function. 

The Role

Reporting to the Payroll Manager, you will play a critical leadership role in overseeing the delivery of accurate and compliant payroll services for a large workforce. You will provide leadership and support to the payroll team, ensuring BAU payroll operations run seamlessly while maintaining strong governance and controls. Leveraging your in-depth knowledge of payroll legislation you will be a trusted escalation point for complex matters and take pride in driving accuracy, consistency, and best practice across the payroll function.

The key duties are, but not limited to:
  • Lead and oversee end-to-end payroll operations, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely delivery.
  • Provide day-to-day leadership, coaching, and support to Payroll Officers.
  • Act as the escalation point for complex payroll queries, awards, EBAs, and legislation.
  • Review and approve payroll outputs and exception reports.
  • Manage and prioritise the payroll inbox and workload distribution.
  • Ensure compliance with Fair Work, ATO, superannuation, and payroll tax obligations.
  • Partner with HR and Finance on payroll matters and reporting.
  • Support payroll system improvements and process enhancements.
The Candidate
  • Demonstrated experience as a senior payroll officer, with a keen interest in leading others;
  • Large Tier One payroll system experience would be advantageous and proficient using Time & Attendance systems;
  • Ability to bring energy and positivity to every task and interaction;
  • Ability to use a sense of humor to keep the workplace light and enjoyable.
