About the Role
Reporting directly to the Engineering Manager, this is a standalone Project Manager / Project Engineer position responsible for delivering a rolling portfolio of minor to medium capital works across the operation. You will be the go-to person for project delivery, engaging and managing contractors end-to-end while working autonomously within a supportive and experienced team environment.
The role covers a broad range of disciplines including civil infrastructure (pavement rehabilitation, structural works), mechanical works (equipment procurement, automation upgrades), and electrical coordination. Project values range from $10k through to $10m, with a strong pipeline of works planned over the next two years.
This is a 2-year fixed-term contract covering a secondment into a major capital programs, offering genuine variety, direct senior stakeholder exposure, and the opportunity to introduce structure and systems into a lower-maturity project environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, schedule and deliver capital projects from concept through to handover and close-out
- Engage, manage and coordinate sub-contractors, consultants and suppliers across multiple concurrent projects
- Prepare cost estimates, project justifications and tender documentation
- Manage project budgets, expenditure tracking and progressive financial reconciliation
- Ensure compliance with Building Code of Australia, Australian Standards and OHS requirements
- Coordinate contractor safety, environmental plans and JSAs in line with terminal policies
- Liaise with internal stakeholders including Operations, HSSE, Facilities, Procurement and Finance
- Interface with external stakeholders including NSW Ports, landlords and regulatory bodies
- Maintain project documentation, progress reports and stakeholder communication
- Identify risks and issues early, escalating where needed and proposing mitigation strategies
- Support continual improvement of project management processes and frameworks
- Tertiary qualification in Construction, Project Management, Civil Engineering or similar (desirable)
- 5–7 years' experience in project delivery, ideally stepping from Project Engineer into Project Manager
- Strong civil engineering or construction background (road maintenance, infrastructure works highly regarded)
- Proven ability to manage projects autonomously from start to finish
- Experience coordinating sub-contractors and managing multiple concurrent works
- Sound knowledge of budgeting, scheduling, risk management and contract administration
- Familiarity with Building Code, Australian Standards and OHS compliance requirements
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office; exposure to PM tools (MS Project, Asana, Monday.com) beneficial
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills across all levels
- Collaborative team player with strong organisational and multitasking capability
- Comfortable working in a live operational environment with pressure and deadlines
