A dynamic, fast-paced business located in Melbourne’s western suburbs is seeking an experienced Accountant to join their established finance team. Our client is a leading service provider in the civil infrastructure and utilities sector, playing a key role in supporting essential services across Victoria. With a focus on pipeline maintenance, trenchless technology, and drainage solutions, the company has built a reputation for reliability, innovation, and operational excellence.
The Role
This is a permanent, full-time opportunity reporting directly to the Finance Manager. As an Accountant, you will play a pivotal role in delivering accurate and timely financial reports, managing fixed assets and leases, supporting compliance activities, and partnering with various business units to drive process improvement and financial control. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a hands-on environment and enjoys both operational and strategic aspects of finance.
Responsibilities
- Preparation of monthly management accounts and financial reports
- Reconciliations of bank accounts, balance sheets, and P&L analysis
- Management of daily cashflow reporting and forecasting
- Maintenance of fixed asset register and lease schedule
- Ensure compliance with AASB 16 lease accounting and fixed asset controls
- Assist in group consolidation and board reporting packs
- Preparation of statutory reports: BAS, payroll tax, FBT, income tax returns, etc.
- Assist in budget preparation and rolling forecasts
- Support Accounts Payable and Receivable functions as needed
- Drive process improvements and challenge current workflows
- Maintain clear communication with stakeholders and external parties
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- A tertiary qualification in Accounting and CA/CPA qualified or working towards
- Minimum 3 years of experience in a similar accounting role
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, AASB 16, and statutory compliance
- Proficiency in Excel and ERP systems (MYOB Advanced or similar desirable)
- High attention to detail and a proactive mindset
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- The ability to work independently and as part of a broader team
- Experience in construction or project-based environments is advantageous however not essential
