An opportunity is available for an experienced Local Laws Officer to join a metropolitan council on a casual basis, supporting frontline compliance and amenity services across the municipality.

This is a field-based role suited to someone confident working independently in the community, applying legislation pragmatically, and engaging with residents in a calm, professional manner.

Reporting into the Local Laws team, you will be responsible for managing amenity-related matters and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and council local laws.
Key responsibilities include:
  • Conducting patrols, inspections and investigations relating to amenity and local law breaches
  • Engaging directly with residents and businesses to provide education, guidance and direction
  • Gathering evidence, taking statements, issuing cautions, notices to comply and infringements where required
  • Managing matters through to resolution using council systems and accurate record-keeping
  • De-escalating challenging situations and communicating outcomes clearly and professionally

  • Monday to Friday hours during training, moving to a rotating roster (including some weekends)
  • $45–$55 per hour + super

About You To be successful in this role, you will bring:
  • Previous Local Laws experience (essential)
  • Strong communication skills and a professional, community-focused approach
  • Confidence managing compliance matters and difficult conversations
  • Sound judgement and the ability to apply legislation consistently
  • Good written skills for notes, reports and evidence documentation
  • Competence using mobile devices, CRM systems and basic office technology
  • A current Victorian Driver Licence and full Australian working rights
