About the Opportunity:


We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Payroll Officer to join a supportive finance team in Melbourne. This role offers the chance to take ownership of end-to-end payroll operations across multiple states and employee groups, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency in every process.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Process and oversee multi-state payroll cycles (fortnightly and monthly) with complete accuracy and timeliness.
  • Maintain employee records, process new starters, terminations, and salary adjustments.
  • Prepare and reconcile monthly payroll journals, PAYG, and payroll tax submissions.
  • Interpret Awards and EBAs, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation across different states.
  • Manage reporting requirements, including quarterly audits, ad-hoc reporting, and payroll analysis.
  • Act as the first point of contact for payroll queries from staff and external bodies (ATO, Centrelink, Child Support, salary packaging providers, etc.).
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and maintain up-to-date procedures.

About You:

You are a proactive and highly organised payroll professional with:
  • 4+ years’ experience in end-to-end payroll, ideally within a medium-to-large, multi-site organisation.
  • Must have experience interpreting awards
  • Strong knowledge of payroll legislation, superannuation, PAYG, and state-based entitlements.
  • Proficiency with payroll systems (experience with Preceda highly regarded) and advanced Excel skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to confidentiality.
  • Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication skills and a collaborative, team-oriented approach.
