We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Payroll Team Lead to join a well-known organisation with operations across Australia. This role will see you leading a small payroll team while overseeing the delivery of accurate, compliant, and efficient payroll services in a high-volume environment. Their office is based in the inner-city suburbs, with flexibility to work from home two days a week.

The Opportunity
In this role, you’ll take ownership of the payroll function, guiding your team to meet deadlines, maintain compliance, and deliver exceptional service to the business. You’ll be hands-on in processing, while also focusing on leadership, reporting, process improvements, and supporting the implementation of a new payroll system.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead and mentor a small payroll team, providing coaching, support, and regular performance feedback
  • Oversee end-to-end payroll operations for Australia, ensuring accuracy and compliance with all legislation
  • Interpret awards, enterprise agreements, and leave entitlements
  • Prepare and review payroll reports, reconciliations, and journal entries for month-end and year-end cycles
  • Partner with internal stakeholders to identify efficiencies and streamline workflows
  • Play a key role in the successful implementation of a new payroll system, including testing, process mapping, and training
  • Contribute to ongoing payroll-related projects and continuous improvement initiatives
About You
  • Proven experience managing or supervising payroll in a large, complex business environment
  • Strong knowledge of Australian payroll legislation, award interpretation, and compliance requirements
  • Experience supporting or leading a payroll system implementation or upgrade
  • Proficient in payroll reporting, reconciliations, and problem-solving
  • Confident communicator with a collaborative, hands-on leadership style
