Principal Payroll Officer: This role is well suited to an experienced payroll professional who enjoys being hands-on and working closely with both Finance and HR, without the responsibility of formally managing a team.

Reporting to Finance and HR, and working alongside the Payroll Manager, you’ll play an important role in supporting the smooth and accurate delivery of payroll across a diverse workforce.

The Role: you’ll provide day-to-day expertise and support across a varied and operational payroll environment.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Supporting end-to-end payroll processing across multiple entities and sites
  • Assisting with the interpretation and application of awards, agreements, and employment conditions
  • Processing allowances, overtime, shift penalties, leave, and termination payments
  • Acting as a point of support for more complex payroll queries and issues
  • Working closely with Finance on reconciliations, reporting, and payroll-related queries
  • Partnering with HR on employee changes, pay updates, and compliance matters
  • Helping to ensure payroll processes align with legislative and statutory requirements
  • Contributing to payroll system updates, testing, and process improvements
  • Providing guidance and knowledge-sharing within the payroll team (no direct reports)

About You You’re an experienced payroll professional who:
  • Has solid end-to-end payroll experience in a medium to large organisation at lead, supervisor and manager level.
  • Enjoys working in a collaborative team environment
  • Is comfortable supporting both Finance and HR stakeholders.
  • Prefers a senior, hands-on role over formal people management.
  • Has good working knowledge of Australian payroll legislation.
  • Is organised, reliable, and approachable in your working style.
  • Experience in operational or award-based environments will be viewed positively.
