Sharp and Carter are thrilled to be partnering with Manulife Investment Management Timberland and Agriculture (Australasia) MIMTA (AU) which is a subsidiary of Manulife Financial Corporation, who offer investment in sustainable areas of agriculture and forestry. The business was established as the Hancock Natural Resource Group (HNRG) in 1995 with two arms of investment, agriculture, and timber. In 2004 Manulife Financial acquired HNRG, becoming the parent company for several Hancock related businesses and a global Canadian giant in their field. The group adopted the Manulife name and branding in 2021.
Under the Manulife umbrella of companies, they manage Timberland and Agricultural assets across Australia and New Zealand, including a number of timber and agriculture owning managed companies for the group, overseeing these as the Investment Manager for these companies.
The Role
Reporting directly to the CFO, your role will be a broad one requiring you to be ‘hands-on’ and in the detail, and a trusted advisor and support to the business. You will be principally responsible for leading the corporate accounting function and for ensuring effective controls and accurate reporting to support commercial decision-making. This is an exciting opportunity to join a team of professionals responsible for delivering timely and accurate financial data to a variety of stakeholders within an expanding investment platform which has been built over the past 25 years in Australia and New Zealand.
Your key responsibilities include:
- Working closely with the CFO to deliver reports, analysis findings and potential risk areas
- Preparation of timely and accurate financial statements and annual reports
- Ensuring compliance with statutory law, taxation, and financial regulations
- Improve financial literacy across the organisation
- Identify and implement process improvements to create efficiencies in reporting
- Team Management including mentoring and staff development
- Oversee the preparation of cash flows and AFSL requirements
- Assist stakeholders with key initiatives such as acquisitions, client requests etc. as needed.
CA/CPA Qualified, you will have an excellent technical accounting base with a proven ability to handle a varied workload. It is also essential that you can engage and influence key stakeholders across all levels. To succeed, you will have an ability to balance your detail-driven personality with the capacity to understand the bigger picture.

- CA/CPA qualified
- An in-depth technical understanding combined with demonstrated strategic and commercial awareness
- Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build strong, collaborative relationships with key stakeholders within the organisation
- Most importantly, you are a collaborative finance professional that thrives working in a close knit team
