Our client, based in Tullamarine, is a rapidly expanding project-focused business operating across scaffolding and construction services, with strong presence across Australia.
The Role
Reporting to the Head of Finance, the Senior Financial Accountant will provide hands-on technical accounting support and act as 2IC for the finance team. The role will support AP, AR, and Payroll, while taking ownership of balance sheet reconciliations, journals, month-end processes, and reporting across multiple entities. You will also assist with integrating new acquisitions, improving systems, and contributing to process efficiency.
Key responsibilities include:
- Preparing and posting month-end journals and maintaining the fixed asset register.
- Completing balance sheet reconciliations and resolving variances.
- Managing intercompany allocations, loans, and AASB 16 lease adjustments.
- Supporting cashflow updates, rolling forecasts, and project cost reporting.
- Preparing BAS, payroll tax returns, covenant calculations, and ABS surveys.
- Supporting external audits and ensuring compliance with internal controls.
- Partnering with Project Managers and Department Heads to provide financial insights.
- Driving process improvement initiatives across the finance function.
The ideal candidate will be CA or CPA qualified with at least 5 years’ experience in financial accounting, ideally in project-focused industries such as construction, engineering, or manufacturing. You will bring a strong technical foundation, hands-on approach, and excellent analytical and communication skills. Exposure to payroll, EBAs, or complex projects is highly desirable.
Key skills and attributes:
- Hands-on technical accounting experience, including month-end, reconciliations, journals, and reporting.
- Strong understanding of Australian accounting standards, tax compliance, and financial reporting.
- Comfortable working independently and collaboratively in a lean, dynamic team.
- Professional, proactive, and able to influence and build strong internal relationships.
