An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly experienced Senior Legal Counsel to join a leading renewable energy business delivering large-scale solar, battery storage, and grid infrastructure projects across Australia as their first In House Counsel.
About the Role:
As a key member of the legal team, you will provide specialist legal support across the full lifecycle of renewable energy projects — from site acquisition and planning approvals, through financing, construction, operations, and divestment. You will work closely with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure projects are structured, documented, and delivered in a legally robust and commercially effective way.
Key responsibilities include:
- Advising on project development matters, including land acquisition, planning and environmental approvals, and grid connection arrangements.
- Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a wide range of contracts, including construction, supply, consultancy, corporate, and financing agreements.
- Supporting financing and investment processes, including M&A, shareholder, and joint venture agreements.
- Monitoring compliance with laws, regulatory obligations, and governance requirements.
- Proactively identifying and mitigating legal, regulatory, and contractual risks.
- Collaborating with commercial, technical, and project delivery teams to resolve issues and ensure project success.
- Bachelor of Laws (LLB) or Juris Doctor with at least 8 years’ post-qualification experience.
- Demonstrated expertise in energy, infrastructure, or construction law (in-house or private practice).
- Strong track record in drafting and negotiating complex project and construction agreements.
- Experience in land, planning, environmental, and regulatory approvals for large-scale projects.
- Familiarity with financing structures, investment documentation, and corporate governance.
- Previous in-house experience in renewable energy, utilities, or infrastructure will be highly regarded.
