About the Opportunity:
We are partnering with this organisation to appoint a Senior Legal Counsel. This is a broad and commercially focused in-house role supporting a business operating within a complex and highly regulated financial services environment. The position offers the opportunity to work closely with senior stakeholders across the organisation while advising on a diverse range of legal, regulatory and commercial matters.
The Role:
Reporting to a senior leader within Corporate Services, you will manage a wide range of legal matters impacting the business. The role will focus on providing pragmatic legal advice across financial services regulation, commercial contracting, corporate governance and compliance matters. You will partner with internal teams to support regulatory obligations, manage legal risk and ensure the business operates in line with applicable legislative and industry requirements.
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing legal advice across financial services, consumer credit and regulatory matters
- Drafting, reviewing and negotiating a range of commercial and financing-related agreements
- Supporting compliance with key regulatory frameworks and industry legislation
- Assisting with responses to regulators and regulatory inquiries
- Managing disputes, litigation and intellectual property matters where required
- Liaising with regulators, external counsel and internal stakeholders
- Supporting governance frameworks, policy development and risk management initiatives
- Delivering legal guidance and training to internal teams on regulatory and compliance matters
You will be a qualified lawyer with strong commercial acumen and experience operating within financial services or other highly regulated environments.
Key requirements include:
- Approximately 5–10 years’ post-qualification experience
- Experience advising on financial services regulation, consumer credit or insurance frameworks
- Strong experience in commercial contracts and regulatory advisory work
- Knowledge of key regulatory regimes such as the Corporations Act, ASIC regulatory frameworks, NCCP Act, Privacy Act and AML/CTF obligations is highly regarded
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
- Ability to balance legal risk with commercial objectives
- A proactive, solutions-focused approach with the ability to operate autonomously
