HSE Business Partner

Job title : HSE Business Partner
Location : Melbourne
Job type : Permanent or Full Time
Job reference : 1692416
The Organisation
Our client operates within a critical infrastructure environment, supporting essential services across Australia. With a strong reputation for technical capability and operational excellence, the organisation is continuing to evolve its safety approach - placing greater focus on proactive risk elimination, design-led safety and practical, commercially sound outcomes.
The business fosters a collaborative and supportive culture, where safety is viewed as a shared responsibility and continuous improvement is actively encouraged.

The Opportunity
This HSE Business Partner role sits within the electricity asset division, supporting predominantly engineering and technical teams rather than a traditional field-based workforce.

This is a genuine partnering position where you will work closely with leaders to embed safety into engineering design, procurement and asset lifecycle decision-making. The role focuses on influencing upstream risk controls while also supporting incident investigations, continuous improvement initiatives and organisational learning.

You will join a close-knit HSE team and play a key role in driving practical, risk-based safety outcomes across the business.

Key Responsibilities
  • Act as the dedicated HSE Business Partner supporting electricity asset and engineering leaders
  • Integrate safety principles across design, engineering and procurement processes
  • Partner with technical stakeholders to influence safer outcomes at the front end of projects and equipment decisions
  • Lead and support incident investigations, reporting and improvement initiatives
  • Drive a strong “close the loop” approach to ensure actions and safety improvements are implemented and embedded
  • Support and uplift safety capability across teams with varying levels of safety maturity
  • Influence a shift from compliance-led safety toward proactive risk elimination and practical controls
  • Provide pragmatic, operationally viable safety advice aligned to business outcomes
About You
  • Demonstrated experience in a HSE advisory or business partnering role
  • Experience working with engineering, technical or asset-based teams highly regarded
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and influencing capability
  • Experience supporting investigations, risk management and safety improvement initiatives
  • Comfortable operating across varying levels of safety maturity
  • Practical, commercially aware and outcomes-focused approach
  • Strong prioritisation skills with the ability to manage a broad and evolving scope
Experience within utilities, infrastructure, engineering, construction or other high-risk environments will be highly regarded.

Working Arrangements & Benefits
  • CBD-based role with strong work-from-home flexibility
  • Competitive salary package circa $160,000 + 10% bonus
  • Opportunity to influence safety outcomes upstream in engineering and design
  • Supportive and collaborative HSE leadership and team environment
  • Strong mentoring, coaching and development opportunities
  • Broad, business-facing partnering role with high visibility
