An independent secondary school in Brisbane's inner north is seeking an experienced ICT Systems Manager to join their vibrant team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key part in shaping and modernising the school’s ICT strategy and infrastructure.
About the Role
Reporting directly to the ICT Manager, you will serve as second-in-command of a close-knit and progressive IT team. You’ll provide leadership across daily operations, infrastructure projects, and systems architecture, while also mentoring junior team members and acting as the escalation point for high-level technical issues.
This is a hands-on, multifaceted role combining project delivery, system oversight, and team management—with the opportunity to step up during the ICT Manager’s absence.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Overseeing core ICT systems including servers, networking, security, backups, and virtual environments.
- Delivering and supporting major projects including:
- Migration from SCCM to Microsoft Intune
- Cybersecurity uplift based on Essential 8 / NIST frameworks
- Firewall replacement (Fortinet vs Palo Alto)
- Evaluation of a potential strategic shift from macOS to Windows
- Acting as a strategic leader on the ICT Steering Committee
- Leading BAU operations and resolving 2nd/3rd line support escalations (approx. 50–60 tickets/week)
- Mentoring a Systems Engineer and Helpdesk staff
- Driving innovation and continual improvement across systems
Technical Expertise:
- Strong knowledge of Windows Server, Active Directory, Office 365, and VMware
- Nutanix experience highly regarded
- Networking fundamentals (IP addressing, routing, VLANs, wireless); Cisco experience is a bonus
- DR and backup strategies
- Familiarity with cybersecurity frameworks and risk mitigation
- A calm, confident leader with the ability to mentor and support others
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills across stakeholders
- Proactive problem-solver with a hands-on approach
- Ability to step up and represent IT leadership when required
- Experience in education, government, or youth-focused sectors
