About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced Legal Counsel to join their team and provide trusted legal guidance across the organisation. In this pivotal role, you’ll ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations while supporting commercial outcomes.

You’ll advise on all contractual matters with customers and suppliers—both pre‑ and post‑contract—and work closely with operational leaders to safeguard the organisation’s interests.  Experience within infrastructure will be helpful for this position

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide clear, practical legal advice to operational and functional leaders to ensure compliance with laws, regulations, and policies.
  • Assess and manage legal risk while supporting commercial decision‑making.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of contracts, including haulage agreements, leases, loans, and purchase agreements.
  • Represent the organisation in legal proceedings before courts, regulators, or other authorities.
  • Partner with the business as a trusted advisor to support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Assist in preparing Board agendas, papers, and minutes, and support governance functions as required.
  • Stay up to date with case law, legislative changes, and regulatory developments, providing clear insights on their impact.
  • Manage relationships with external legal providers when specialist advice is needed.
  • Contribute to the ongoing review and development of corporate policies and procedures
About You

You are a detail‑oriented and commercially minded legal professional with a strong ability to balance legal risk and business needs. You’re an excellent communicator, able to provide clear advice and build strong stakeholder relationships.

Essential Criteria
  • Law degree with a minimum of 5 years’ post‑qualification experience in a similar role
  • Strong research, analytical, and problem‑solving skills
  • Exceptional accuracy, attention to detail, and execution
  • Excellent written, interpersonal, and presentation skills
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines
  • High level of confidentiality and professionalism
Desirable
  • Experience in the rail, transport, or mining sectors
  • Prior experience in a similar in‑house counsel role
