Mechatronics Engineer – Mobile Automation | Industrial Equipment
PLC & controls-focused role in a collaborative engineering team
  • Drive automation across mobile machinery – not a desk-only coding job
  • Hands-on PLC programming
  • Melbourne South-East | Full-time onsite | $105–120k base + super
We’re partnering with a well-established industrial manufacturer of mobile machinery and complex equipment to recruit a Mechatronics Engineer focused on embedded controls, PLC software, and automation systems. This is a unique opportunity for a technically skilled engineer to join a highly collaborative team driving software solutions across a range of mobile equipment and hydraulic systems.

The Opportunity
Reporting to a team manager with deep controls experience, you’ll join a group of experienced electronics and software engineers focused on the logic, performance, and reliability of PLC-based control systems across heavy industrial mobile equipment. You’ll work closely with hardware engineers and production teams to integrate control logic, sensors, and IoT features that support equipment functionality and customer customisation.

This role suits someone passionate about automation in mobile equipment environments. You'll develop and maintain software in environments such as Codesys, working with platforms like Rockwell and Siemens. Expect hands-on, structured work that contributes directly to operational performance and new product development.

What You’ll Bring
  • Background in Mechatronics, Electrical, or Software Engineering – degree or significant trade experience.
  • Strong experience with PLCs and embedded systems for mobile machinery
  • Understanding of CANbus, hydraulic/electrical integration, and vehicle control systems
  • Practical mindset – willing to work onsite daily with production and design teams
  • Experience in automotive, agriculture, heavy equipment, or commercial vehicles is ideal
Why Apply?
  • Real-world engineering – blend of software logic, system integration, and hands-on work
  • Stability and investment – long-standing business with a strong product pipeline
  • Career development – work under experienced mentors and collaborate across functions
This is an onsite role based in Melbourne’s south-east. Remote coders or those seeking pure software development roles need not apply. Candidates must be comfortable in a production-focused, collaborative environment.
