A pivotal leadership opportunity exists for an experienced Principal Data Architect to drive enterprise-wide data strategy within a large Queensland Government department.
This role will lead the design and implementation of a centralised enterprise data capability, unifying architecture, governance, engineering and business intelligence into a coordinated, future-focused model.
Operating with significant autonomy, you will shape how data is structured, integrated and governed across the organisation, ensuring high-quality, reliable information is available to support evidence-based decision-making and digital transformation.
This is a strategic role for someone who can influence at scale, eliminate duplication, uplift standards, and embed data as a true enterprise asset.
Key Responsibilities Enterprise Data Architecture
- Develop and maintain the target-state enterprise data architecture aligned to ICT strategy and whole-of-government frameworks
- Map business capabilities, processes and data flows to inform architecture design
- Define data models, standards and principles to support scalable, integrated solutions
- Establish and evolve a core data platform leveraging Microsoft Azure and enterprise BI tools
- Guide integration across systems including Dynamics 365, ArcGIS, SQL environments and Power BI
- Provide technical assurance on architecture, security and privacy alignment
- Lead the implementation of data governance frameworks
- Define metadata, stewardship and compliance standards
- Ensure data quality, privacy and security obligations are met
- Partner with ICT and business leaders to align data initiatives with operational priorities
- Coordinate enterprise data demand to avoid duplication and promote shared solutions
- Mentor staff and support a data and analytics community of practice
- Prepare architecture documentation and transition materials to support sustainable delivery
You are a strategic thinker with deep technical expertise and a proven ability to influence across complex environments.
Essential Experience
- Senior experience in enterprise data architecture within large or complex organisations
- Strong capability in Azure, SQL, ETL, Power BI, Dynamics 365 and ArcGIS
- Expertise in data modelling, integration architecture and analytics enablement
- Sound understanding of governance, metadata, privacy and security frameworks
- Demonstrated leadership and stakeholder engagement capability
- Relevant qualifications or equivalent experience
- Certifications such as Azure or TOGAF
- Knowledge of Queensland Government ICT framework
