About the role:
Reporting to the COO, your key responsibilities would include driving the risk function within MCRI; ensuring all statutory compliance requirements are completed as required; overseeing the internal audit function for the organisation; and ensuring a suitable insurance program is in place and maintained.
  
You would be accountable for ensuring organisation’s risk framework is in place and current, and that effective risk management practises are employed. This would be achieved through working with key stakeholders and committees to ensure a robust risk management culture across the organisation, and strong controls and compliance measures are in place to manage key operational and financial risk. The role will oversee the internal audit program, either by completion of internal audit activities or by managing the relationship with external providers. You will also be responsible for working with the organisation’s insurance providers to ensure a comprehensive and appropriate insurance program is maintained at all times.
  
Key duties include:
  • Ensuring that an effective and robust risk management program is developed and maintained within a comprehensive risk governance framework
  • Leadership and coordination of an annual statutory compliance plan covering all statutory compliance requirements across the organisation, including both foreign and domestic requirements
  • Development and coordination of an annual internal audit plan, coordinating the external Internal Audit firm and championing internal controls and processes within MCRI
  • Establishment and maintenance of an annual insurance program
  • Ensuring for all elements of the role, that the organisation is aware of the needs for and benefits of the functions, that training and support programs are in place and effective, and that there is a high level of confidence from the management group and the Board in relation to the programs
  • Support the COO in other initiatives from time to time as directed
  
Skills and Experience
You are an experienced risk management professional, with excellent communication, influencing and relationship building skills. You have strong attention to detail, and the ability to prioritise and manage competing demands to meet deadlines and deliver strong outcomes.
  
In addition, you have:
  • A proven background in developing, implementing and maintaining a risk management framework within a large, complex organisation with multiple service and delivery areas
  • An understanding of insurance programs and effective coordination of these programs
  • Experience with statutory reporting
  • A strong understanding over the legal and financial structures within organisations and the compliance needs of large complex organisations
  • Tertiary qualifications in either risk management, legal or financial disciplines
  • Ideally (but not essentially) a working understanding of medical research or health delivery organisations
